Choosing export lead generation software: six criteria
Export lead generation software supports buyer discovery, research, outreach preparation and follow-up. Define the problem your team needs to solve, then test a workflow with your own product, countries and customer types instead of comparing database size alone.
1. Check relevant market coverage
Confirm countries, industries, product categories, available fields and historical periods. Ask about data sources, update methods and known gaps.
Use a real target market and product in the demo. Broad geographic coverage does not necessarily cover the customers you need.
2. Look for explainable matching
Ask why a company is recommended: relevant applications, related purchasing history or simply a keyword mention? Evidence should point to its source and date.
Review both relevant and irrelevant examples. Check feedback, deduplication and segmentation. A high score is not proof of a confirmed purchasing plan.
3. Assess contacts and outreach preparation
Check contact roles, sources and verification status. Ask how missing details are handled and distinguish draft preparation, approval and actual delivery capabilities.
Review email and WhatsApp content for business relevance. Available contact information does not automatically imply communication permission or a likely reply.
4. Walk through team follow-up
Check ownership, customer stages, next-step dates, replies, inquiries and quotations. For teams, discuss permissions, duplicate assignments and handovers.
Walk through a lead from discovery to recorded feedback. Look for repeated data entry and tool switching rather than relying on the length of a feature list.
5. Check data management and portability
Confirm export formats, fields, limits and whether sources and follow-up notes can be retained. For an existing CRM, discuss interface scope, access and implementation work.
Ask what happens to business records when an account closes. Actual arrangements should be confirmed in the applicable service terms.
6. Understand total cost and conditions
Check seats, query limits, datasets, interfaces, setup and training as well as the base price. Clarify renewals, upgrades and usage limits.
Prepare specific acceptance questions before the demo: can you explain a recommendation, assign a follow-up and export needed records? No single tool is best for every business.
